5 Road Trips that Will Be the Highlight of Your Summer

Summer is the perfect time to pack up the car and take a trip.

You don’t have to worry about snow and ice, the kids are out of school, and there’s plenty of mood-boosting sunshine.

The problem isn’t if you should go but where you should go!

Consider one of these 5 amazing road trips that will take you to some of the most beautiful places in the US.

The Coast of New England

Starting in Gloucester, Massachusetts, you can enjoy 250 miles of seafood, animal watching, maritime museums, sailboat harbors, and lots of history, until you reach New Haven, Connecticut. Make sure you hit Boston and Newport, Rhode Island, and Mystic, Connecticut. As far as lodging goes, you’ll find plenty of quaint little inns along the route.

The Gold Coast of Michigan

Maybe Michigan isn’t what immediately comes to mind when you think about beach getaways, but it should! Summer means the water temperature is up, making it the perfect time to explore the beautiful beaches. Did you know that New Buffalo is the midwest’s surfing hub? If beach life isn’t your thing, you can enjoy the wineries, B&Bs, orchards, and breathtaking views. You’ll definitely want to make time for the ferry ride to Mackinac Island during your trip.

The Blues Highway

If you like jazz, you need to take this road trip. This 1,000-mile journey starts in Memphis, Tennessee. You’ll find hidden gems and backwater juke joints along Highway 61 to Clarksdale, where you can check out the Delta Blues Museum. The Blues Highway ends in New Orleans, Louisiana – the birthplace of jazz. You shouldn’t have any trouble finding a music festival or two along the way, and don’t forget about all the boiled crawfish you can eat!

The San Juan Highway

The twists and turns of the road are well worth it for the incredible views you’ll take in along this 160 mile stretch of Colorado highway. Along the way, you can hit Mesa Verde National Park and the historic railroad town of Durango, which is known for biking and fly-fishing. You’ll also find some ghost towns and Old West saloons! If you want to keep the journey going, you can hop on the Million Dollar Highway that will take you to Ouray and Telluride.

Ivy League tour

It’s worth the trip to New England just to take in the Ivy League colleges and universities in the area. Summer is a great time to visit so that you can wander the campuses and their quaint surrounding towns, unencumbered by busy students. Harvard University is located just outside of Boston, in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Yale is in New Haven, Connecticut and you’ll find Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. If time allows, add Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire to your tour.
