Compressor Service

Conrads Flag

When your air conditioning stops blowing cold, the compressor is frequently at the center of the problem. As the component that pressurizes refrigerant and drives the entire cooling cycle, a failing compressor brings the whole system to a halt. Conrad’s Tire Express & Total Car Care's ASE-Certified Technicians diagnose AC compressor issues accurately, and scheduling service online is easy.

Conrad's has kept drivers comfortable across Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania since 1969, with 50+ locations making AC service convenient throughout the region.

What the AC Compressor Does

Driven by the serpentine belt, the compressor pressurizes refrigerant gas and sends it through the condenser, where heat is released and the refrigerant becomes liquid. From there it cycles through the expansion valve and evaporator, absorbing heat from cabin air and cooling it before circulating through the vents.

Compressors fail gradually — losing efficiency over time — or suddenly, often with an obvious noise or a seized pulley. A failed compressor can also send metal debris through the rest of the system, which is exactly why a proper diagnosis matters before any repair begins.

Our Compressor Services

AC System Diagnostics

We check refrigerant pressure, compressor operation, and clutch engagement to confirm whether the compressor itself is actually the source of the problem.

Compressor Replacement

When replacement is needed, we install a quality unit and flush the system to clear any contamination left behind by the previous failure.

Refrigerant Recharge

After compressor service, we evacuate, leak-test, and recharge the system with the correct refrigerant type and amount for your vehicle.

Why This Service Matters

  • A seizing compressor can damage the serpentine belt, potentially disabling other accessories it drives.
  • Metal debris from a failed compressor can contaminate the entire AC system if not properly flushed.
  • Running the AC with low refrigerant strains the compressor and accelerates wear.
  • A non-functioning AC system in summer is more than a comfort issue — it affects alertness on longer drives.
  • Early diagnosis sometimes reveals the fix is a clutch or component issue rather than a full compressor replacement.
