AUTO REPAIR & MAINTENANCE

CV Axles

Conrads Flag

A clicking sound during turns is one of the more recognizable warning signs in auto repair, and it almost always points to a worn CV joint. Conrad’s Tire Express & Total Car Care's ASE-Certified Technicians diagnose and service CV axles before a torn boot turns into a full joint failure, and you can schedule an inspection online without delay.

Conrad's has serviced drivetrains across Ohio, Michigan, and Pennsylvania since 1969, and our 50+ locations make CV axle repair accessible throughout the region.

How CV Axles and Joints Work

On front-wheel-drive and many all-wheel-drive vehicles, CV (constant velocity) axles transmit power from the transaxle to the wheels while accommodating both the up-and-down motion of the suspension and the side-to-side motion of steering — a more demanding job than a simple driveshaft handles. Each axle has an inner and outer CV joint, both protected by a flexible rubber boot packed with grease.

That boot is the joint's lifeline. Once it cracks or tears — from age, road debris, or simply flexing one too many times — the grease inside escapes and dirt and moisture work their way in. A joint that was perfectly fine the day before can start wearing rapidly the moment its boot fails.

Our CV Axle Services

CV Boot Inspection

We check each boot for cracks, tears, or grease leakage as part of routine inspection, since catching a torn boot early can mean a simple boot replacement instead of a full joint replacement.

CV Boot Replacement

When a boot is damaged, but the joint underneath hasn't yet suffered contamination damage, replacing just the boot is the more economical path.

CV Joint & Axle Replacement

Once a joint has been running without proper lubrication and protection, replacing the complete axle assembly is typically the most practical and reliable solution.

Why This Service Matters

  • A torn CV boot allows grease to escape and contaminants to enter, dramatically accelerating joint wear.
  • A CV joint that fails completely results in a loss of power to that wheel, which can leave you stranded.
  • The telltale clicking noise during turns tends to worsen progressively once it starts.
  • Catching a torn boot before joint damage occurs is significantly less expensive than full axle replacement.
  • Ignoring early symptoms turns a simple boot replacement into a much costlier complete axle service.
